Peggle now available for iPhone

55 levels and 40 challenges of some of the most addictive gameplay there has ever been. Controls feature a "precision wheel" on the side of the screen that will let you line up your shot perfectly. All of the Peggle masters and powers in the regular version made it to the iPhone as well. If you've ever played Peggle, you probably already know that at $4.99, this is a steal, and if you've never played Peggle, we can almost assuredly tell you it's more than worth the price (though there is a free trial for the Mac just in case you're not 100% sure).
Peggle for the iPhone is out. Your free time's days are numbered.

Bought it, own the iPod 5G version. Hmmm...it's slow...too slow, too jerky - it has the flavor of an app that's not quite ready for primetime. I've also got a sneaking suspicion that the lack of levels is because they want you to buy them in the AppStore next month, when 3.0 and internal micropayment processing is available..."Hey, want 10 more levels? That'll be .99 please..."
See where I'm going?
I'd wait on this one. I rushed and now own it, but I could easily have waited until there's a that 1.1 fixes the lag and slowness.

I bought it and find it amazing, don't see any lag, but had to recently reboot the iphone. The experience is mostly like the mac app, and amazing. The only weird issue I had is that lifting the finger from the screen sometimes moves the position of the shot, but it may be the way I touch the screen.

Great to have such objective and penetrating reporting, and not just lazy reprinting of someone's press release hype, masquerading as journalism, like some of the really trashy blogs do. Really. Good work guys.

I came to say exactly that. Also, it's fine if TUAW does a little 'pay to play', it's their website they can do what they want - but at least disclose that it's a paid advertisement, or there is a little quid pro quo going on, whatever the deal is, disclose it.

If you've read Mike's other posts on Peggle, you know he's a fan of the game, and he's not alone.
If you're suggesting that TUAW takes money from app developers to grant reviews (as other sites are known to do -- "priority placement" and "move to the top of the queue"), we don't. Never have. Never will.

I couldn't agree with you more. The quality of posts here over the past six months or so has dropped by an incredible amount. Half-assed posts copying marketing releases, news briefs 48 hours after I read them elsewhere, and just an overrall lack of a critical/editorial eye. Did you read that "review" of the USB video adaptor yesterday? I guess "review" at tuaw now means plug it in, turn it on, and if you get a picture, write a glowing review! And then of course thank the manufacturer for the free "review" unit that I now get to "keep!" blah

It's irrelevant whether the app is good or not. And it's not even about whether there are backhanders going on or not. This is just disgracefully poor reporting. Yes, it's their blog and they can write what they like. But shame on them nonetheless.

I'm a huge fan of Peggle and thought they could have done a better job on the graphics. It looks like a shotty port (even though that's what I was expecting)

Never played Peggle before, so I downloaded the free trial. Doesn't work. After being warned I only have 1 hour of free play time left, clicking "Play" results in "FATAL ERROR Failed to load image: images/sunglow"
Sorry, not impressed. (And one HOUR of free play? Talk about gracious.)

MSN has a version you can play for free that won't crash.
On a side note, exactly what is the "Remember me" checkbox supposed to do? 'Cause it doesn't do what I think it should.

No THJ, the general outrage at this insulting blog posting isnt at the blog writer's opinions. It's at his lack of them.
It's such a naked piece of unadulterated PR spin, as an earlier commenter said, almost certainly just cut-and-pasted from a press release without even troubling to edit it. I'm a journalist myself, and I recognise puff pieces like this instantly.
This isn't blogging. It's PR. Personally I'd be surprised if it wasn't paid for, since it has all the worst hallmarks. Personally I feel there should be a duty of disclosure. But of course it's true that blogging doesn't have to adhere to the same ethical practices as print journalism.
So instead all we can do is express our disgust at Mike and TUAW in general. If they had a shred of conscience they'd be issuing an abject apology for the insult.
Oh, and incidentally, even if this IS a good game, this sort of thing leaves such a bad taste in my mouth that I'm damned if I'll download the thing.

Here's a challenge, Mike: tell us with a straight face that this posting did NOT recycle text derived from the game's producers or their agents. No, I'm not asking you to certify that you do actually like the game, just like those cute kids on the telly ads so adore their breakfast cereals. I'm challenging you to state unequivocally, on honour of your future credibility, that this piece wasn't just a lazy rewrite of text produced by someone with a vested interest. Did you, or did you not, write every word from scratch, based solely on your own original ideas and forms of expression?
Have the guts man. Chicken?

LOL @ all the nerd rage in this thread. If you don't like it, just skip it and go to the next post, stop reading TUAW all together, or post something constructive, like your own review, or links to other reviews.
It's annoying reading QQ that has nothing to do with the topic, and offers no alternatives. Issuing 'challenges'? Really?

Personally I think it's a totally fair point, and the author should respond as asked. The blogger here has written a piece that appears utterly disgraceful, apparently just copying a press release and pretending it's his own work. Whether or not you like the game, most people would consider that shoddy in the extreme. He's being asked to deny this. His silence so far seems to speak volumes.
Given the crescendo of complaints about falling standards on TUAW, I think the site editor should be insisting on a response, or rescinding this guy's posting rights.
